Anonymous asked: I thought that you could only rent an rv site by the month. There has been two rv's at the cove at Calaveras that look like they have set up house. What's up with that? They are taking up valuable fishing space. One rv has dogs that won't let you get by. I thougt when you rented a site you don't rent the shoreline. We would love to give comments or suggestions on-line if you had somewhere to do so.

The RV sites were built for employees. Those that aren’t currently being used by employees are rented to the public. The RV sites in question are being used by employees. Please be respectful and do not walk through someone’s personal space.

other posters questions

there is no submerged timber or anything, it’s not like alot of other lakes… the reds are on fire on downriggers at 17-22 ft.. swimbaits been the key lately…

Anonymous asked: I would like to know why there are boaters in the cove without tags. Where are the Game Wardens or any enforcers out there checking. There is this one boater casting his net and keeping almost everything caught. Tuesday he was there casting his net yet again and had another person gutting everything caught. He has been out here everyday this week.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is responsible for enforcing boating and fishing regulations on both Braunig and Calaveras Lakes. Feel free to contact them if you see violations.

Anonymous asked: "If you don't leave any there won't be any" for our future generations. Please have someone check these people who are keeping game fish caught with a cast net.

Anonymous asked: What are the reds being caught on this time of year. I have never been on the lake, do I need to watch out for sumerged trees etc. while running the lake?

Crawfish is favorite bait also shrimp, and talipa. Good luck.

P.S. Since you did not specify which lake, inquire at the gate about obstacles.

Anonymous asked: I read in Racks and Reels that the fishing for Reds is heating up at Calaveras. Any tips on what I should do if I want to hit the lake up this weekend? I'm fishing out of a canoe. Thanks.

Crawfish is favorite bait also shrimp, and talipa. Good luck.

Anonymous asked: I plan to head out there Friday. Any tips to catch a Bass or a Red? What should I bring for Bait/Lures?

Reds will bite on live crawfish, shrimp and other live baits. Bass will hit on rat l traps. Good luck.

drecoffee asked: Hello. Well I dont own boat am wondering wheres the best place to catch a fish from bank. Never caught a Red and sure would like to, but a cat will do. Also, are crawfish good bait to use, which is better live or dead? Oh by the way, Im fishing Calaveras Lake. Thank you so much.

Most of the shoreline does offer good bank fishing. We also have a fishing pier. Yes live crawfish is excellent bait for reds. Certain portions of the bank do require wading out to cast far enough out to reach deeper water. Good luck.

BTW, there are several cats running loose on the property. If you can catch one feel free to take it with you. ;-)

Anonymous asked: what time does the front gate open a.m. and close p.m? How much are annual passes for me my boat and my wife and 2 kids ? Can I go in and out with on a dayly ticket ? Is a daily ticket good for 24 hours from time of purchase? If i understand correctly if i fish till 8;30 without a camping pass you will tow my car, hardly seams fair since the sun has just barley set, Is this true??? thx new to area

Our spring/summer hours (now in effect) are 6 am-10 pm. Our fall/winter hours are 6 am-8 pm. Information on annual and daily permits can be found here. You may leave and return so long as the gate is open and your permit has not expired. The new overnight fee brings these parks in line with other parks in the state and nation.
