Both Braunig and Calaveras Lakes are power plant lakes used to cool equipment at the plants. Therefore, the water level is kept within a tight tolerance. If too much evaporation occurs water is pumped in from the San Antonio River. Each lake has two boat ramps, all of which are in current use.
The red drum have been biting mostly on spoons and Rat-L-Traps. The best place to fish for them at Calaveras is at the crappie wall.
Our entrance gates are open from 6 am-8 pm so be sure to arrive during those hours. The exit is always open.
